With increasing consumer confidence and economic growth in the vast majority of European countries, branded consumer goods manufacturers are in a strong position to increase revenue and profits. However, the industry landscape has structurally changed over the last years and Pricing Power is no longer self-evident.

Price transparency is increasing and sales/distribution channels are starting to blur. In some cases customers are becoming competitors. At the same time, market consolidation is leading to larger and more professional purchasing departments. As a result, many companies see their growth paths slowed down by price erosion, exposure risk, and inefficient trade investments due to historically grown pricing structures.

These opportunities and threats call for increased European leadership in pricing and revenue management with a clear sight on the legislative agenda. Successful companies limit value leakage and harmonization risks by focusing on commercially and legally defendable strategic price structures between channels, countries and international (key) accounts. This also includes capabilities across consumer prices, promotions, trade terms and key account management.
